Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW) has pledged its commitment to offer humanitarian services to support governments at all levels during emergency periods.
The association made this declaration via a statement signed by its National President, Alhaji Mashood Mustapha and National Secretary General, Esther Nasara, a copy of which was made available to journalists through the National Public Relations Officer of the association, Musliudeen Adebayo.
Recall that about 22 students and staff of Saint Academy School in Jos lost their lives as a result of building collapse in the school on Friday.
NASoW while reacting, called on social workers in the state to rise up and provide psychosocial support and counselling services to victims and their families.
The duo while speaking further, expressed expressed worry that the incident occurred few hours when both the National and State Executive Council members are due to arrive Jos for its NEC and SEC meetings.
The association while speaking further, then commended Plateau state government for its swift rescue interventions along side officials of SEMA, NEMA, RED CROSS and other spirited groups and individuals for the spontaneous interventions which resulted in the rescue of victims buried under the rubbles.
NASoW concluded by reaffirming its commitment to collaborate with relevant organisations to offer humanitarian services in cases of emergency and recovery from traumatic experiences.
"Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW) expressed worry over the unfortunate incident that occurred in Jos yesterday.
"The National Executive of the association has reached out to our Plateau state chapter and all members of the association in the state to reach out to victims and their families in a bid to provide them with the necessary psychosocial support at this trying period.
"This unfortunate incident occured few hours when both the National and State Executive Council members are due to arrive Jos for our NEC and SEC meetings.
"We commend the Plateau state government for its swift rescue interventions and other officials of SEMA, NEMA, RED CROSS and other spirited groups and individuals for the interventions which resulted in the rescue of quiet a number of victims buried under the rubbles.
"We prayed for God's comfort on those who lost their loved ones.
"We are using this medium to reaffirmed the commitment of NASoW and its members across the federation of collaborating with relevant organisations to offer humanitarian services in cases of emergency and recovery from traumatic experiences".
