2024 New Year Message from NASoW President

Members of the House. May the New Year be filled with prosperity.

2023 was characterized by series of memorable and distinctive events that added value to social work profession in Nigeria.

Together we showed the world that NASoW has come of age to take it's rightful position in the committee of professional Associations.

This was clearly demonstrated in Lagos during the IFSW Africa Region Conference. I sincerely appreciate you all for your positive contributions.

The year was also a year of critical decisions for a better and brighter future for social work profession in our beloved country.

Our stand on Nigerian Council for Social Work was based on principle. No matter the good intention, the ground should always be well prepared.

An IFSW international Conference of that magnitude cannot be going on in Lagos and those who were expected to be there were busy doing the wrong thing at a wrong time in a wrong way. What happened was a violation of the Act that gives recognition to NASoW as the umbrella body.

It is our prayers that 2024 will usher in a new hope where the growth and development of social work profession in Nigeria will be the responsibility of all social workers.

It is on this note that i will like to appeal to you again to key into the futuristic vision and philosophy of NASow through exemplary loyalty by registering with the Association and by paying annual dues as at when due.

It is also our hope that state chapters will submit names of their members to the National Secretariat to update our database.

Happy New Year to all of us.

Alhaji Mashood Mustapha.

National President,
Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW)

  1. Thank you for this clear statement Mr. President. Whatever it takes to give the Social Work Profession the required visibility, let it be done. Alternative membership drive (e.g. social media, print media, different levels of advocacy including the students, etc) can be explored for increased membership and the associated membership dues paid.

I wish the president all the best in 2024 and beyond.
